Yes - grease the tabs. Also check the rear brakes - leaks, wet shoes, rust in the cylinders etc as a bad functioning rear brake can cause the car to veer to one side. Remember, if the car veers to one side, it may be the opposite side that has a problem texasmark1 (6/24/2015)
thanks for the suggestions; don't have of the problems you mentioned... I wonder if the shoes are catching slightly on the backing plate tabs... maybe I should put a spot of high temp grease there...??

I wonder if the shoes are catching slightly on the backing plate tabs... maybe I should put a spot of high temp grease there...?? had same isue with 57 ranchero,front wheel cylinders rusted up,1 side draged the other not as bade. got 2new ones on ebay .tryed to dismantle old ones,had to drive 1 side apart with a punch. i had honed them 2 years ago weth new ruber,at a loss as to the rust isue.

Any leaky fluids on the brake pads will cause that, a leaky wheel cylinder, rear end seal and gear oil and I have even seen where grease from a front wheel bearing slung out and got on shoes and caused it.

what causes one wheel to be prone to early lock up? (Ford with pwr brakes, 1963 Mercury, Daniel's car) but I suppose its not a problem confined to just my son's car. thanks,Mark
