i didn't get any rockers, shafts or stands with my 292. i don't have any experience with shaft mounted rockers. my desoto firedome runs just fine so i have never seen the need to open it up. what do i need to know about them? buy used? engine interchangability? will 312 rockers work. my 292 is bored to a 299. the heads are 57-58 ECZG castings. different ratios? what's a good source for reconditioned sets? teach me all i need to know. i'm a sponge. well, not that kind but i do seek all there is to know.
thanks

Here's some places to start http://www.ford-y-block.comRockers http://www.ford-y-block.com/valvetrain.htmhttp://www.eatonbalancing.com/blog/category/y-block/http://yblockguyIt takes a bit of work, but the search function here will turn a lot of info. It would be nice to know what your Y is going into, and your location.

Rick, I purchased complete assemblies from John Mummert and was VERY pleased with them. They come complete with the rockers already mounted on the shafts, I recommend that this would be one of the best ways to go!

do 272, 292, 312 all interchange? my heads are ECZG castings. i was on rocker arms unlimited, they claim john as one of their customers. i didn't price any from them yet but i know they want a core. does mummert ask for a core or just charge accordingly?

Rocker assemblies are all interchangeable regardless of ratio. You just want them all the same. Our assemblies are all new parts so no core is required. They are the 1,54:1 ratio which is what Ford used on 56 and 57 engines but will fit all years.

I've had 3 sets of John's rockers on 3 different sets of heads. There's something to be said for new. Actually, they're probably better than "Ford" new.
