Hello- I'm planning to send a camshaft out to be reground. I will also be sending a set of lifters along to be resurfaced, as well. The camshaft is of the FoMoCo cast iron variety (EDB). I have a very nice cast iron set of lifters, and a set of the steel. I read in the Y-block book the cast iron lifters were only used early on, and then superseded by the steel lifters (because of camshaft wear issues). Would it be wise to have the steel set resurfaced as opposed to the cast iron set? T.I.A.

Does Schumann have a URL?

I have a new stock replacement cam. The box says to use new lifters, not used or reground lifters. I find a Schumann's Auto Repair in the Googles, but there's no Schumanns URL, only references to Schumanns.

Best regards,

Duck: Is the Cam worn? Having the Cam reground to what? If there is nothing wrong with it, leave it alone, it's a 57 -256 degree advertised cam, which is no longer readily available. The standard regrinds available are 246 degree advertised & have less lift... If you don't have the lifters that came with it, as Frank recommended, best get new ones. I'm led to believe re grinding lifters is dicey, unless done by an expert. They have to be ground with a suitable crown, not flat. If the cam is badly worn, you might want to consider a mild up grade from someone like John Mummert Y-Blk...

PC: As far as I know Schumann's Sales is not on the Internet. His address is 227 W. Mayne St. Box 128, Blue Grass Iowa 52726 or (563) 381-2416. Fax (563) 381-2409.

Total agreement on the new lifters.  Resurfacing is only acceptable when new isn’t available.

The machine work on the 312 is done! ... I thought I had enough NOS lifters on the shelf, but only have 8. Now I'm shopping for lifters.

I contacted Topline/Hy-Lift. They have lifters they say are cast in the USA and machined in Michigan part #A-0892. Has anyone had any experience with them? Are the lifters sold by Mummert or Schumann really good? I want the best available and am nervious about what I've read about the quality of some Y block lifters. Which ones are you engine builders out there using? (Please send a PM if you don't want to step on anyone's toes). Thanks
