I seemed to have developed a "flat" spot in my steering when turning left on my 56 Victoria. I have looked at Mac's and T-Bird products and they have parts to rebuild the box, but they say either two tooth or three tooth? How can I tell without taking the box apart? I would like to order the parts before I rip it all apart. Also does anyone (or theses companies) sell a "rebuild kit" as per say, instead of ordering individual parts?  Thanks in advance for any help!

I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning!

The 3 tooth box has an AF prefix number. I think the 2 tooth is AB. If you have the 3 tooth box the sector gear is not available jus the worm. I just went through this on mine. I sent it out for rebuild and was notified of this. Fortunately mine actually turned out real good with the old sector gear.

Could you post who or where you sent the box to for rebuilding?
Thank you

I sent it to Redhead Steering Gears. There number is 800-808-1148. I haven't gotten any road time on mine yet but from what I'm seeing I'm real pleased. I would recommend them. I also heard that Lare Corp does a conversion on the late 56/57 3 tooth box. One of the t bird restorers told me that they convert them to 58 style boxes. That may be worth looking into also.

Big window, where would this prefix be located? Unless it is is covered b paint, I don't see any letters on the box. Thanks for your help!

It's on the side facing the firewall. You will probably have to scrape the paint/dirt off of it. I had to clean mine pretty good to see it. The numbers are pretty shallow.

The sector shaft is 1 1/8" O.D. on the two tooth and 1 1/4" O.D. on the three tooth.  This is just another thing to look for when trying to I.D. the steering box.
