Finally got my mill back from the builder (Dave Tatom - Mount Vernon, WA) and have some pics to share with youz. The project is a '56 F100 big window custom cab with 292 Y bored .050 over, 165 Clay Smith cam, Mummert intake with QuickFuel BD-1957 carb (600 cfm), Gene Benson C4 conversion, Spotlite stainless log headers. Big thanks to John Mummert for parts, patience, and advice. Big thanks to you guys for all your help also. More to share later, had a massively fun day installing this baby and am pooped happy!

Bill, that's really nice. You up here in the NW? I'm 85 miles south of Mt Vernon in Maple Valley.

I'm in Bellingham Miker. Look me up if you're ever in the area. I visited Merc Mark in Renton about this time last year and bought a few parts from him. There's another guy up here having a Y block built by the same builder in MV. A few hiding here and there also.

Thanks Bob. I'm enjoying and appreciating your project - let's get these effin' things together!

Typo correction, that's a 265 Clay Smith cam, not 165.

Thanks for the posi-vibes guys! It all helps. Thought I'd post a bit more history and photo info. This is definitely a special project. Learned to drive in the apple orchards with this truck in 1978 when I was 14. Dad and I restored, fixed, and drove a lot of y-block cars and trucks, but this one was always the reliable parts hauler. We've been talking about restoring it for about 40 years now. Time flies and pops is 80 now so thought it time to get it done while he still has good eyes and a healthy right foot.
Photo of truck circa 1979 headed to a street fair in SF bay area with a load of nautical carvings.

Legendary Ford/Merc racer and builder Dave Tatom building my 292. Dave mostly builds flatheads but occasionally stoops to a Y. He has an impressive stack of Bonneville records - six in the blown flathead roadster catagory with his '23 Bonneville Betty. Even after six records, in Dave's humble character he claims, "She's too light, she's a better drag car". Fun dude!
