                I have had two 54 cars with 239 motors and the little 2V carbs burn holes in the exhaust part of the intakes, one on top and the other underneath. I have never seen any other year manifolds do this, but they very well may.

  Can I get a range of good compression for a stock 292? Mine was just measured out at between 125 - 130 on all cylinders  At a reliable shop and I was also told its running strong with good vacuum (seems a little low) for a 120+k mile engine. Lots of variables for cranking compression readings with the compression gauge itself being at the top of the list.  But as a general rule, the readings for all the cylinders are expected to be within 10% of each other from the lowest to the highest.

                Hi Guys How about a crack in the intake manifold? It sounds like it coming from underneath the intake manifold under the Carb.                 The sound is not like rattling valves at all. I am going to get someone to help me identify the location at an idle you cant tell there is anything wrong.                 Check valve adjustment. The fuel pump shouldn't be noisy.  If you're sure it is the pump, maybe it needs a rebuild or replacement.

                Accelerating from a standing stop I get a sound like an exhaust leak. I changed the header pipe gasket 1st, no change. Cant see any cracks in the exhaust manifold and nothing loose down the exhaust system. I cant see inside the muffler but its quiet in the back?
