Has anyone ever hooked up a 6 volt pertronix ignitor to a 6 volt positive ground 55 ford car. This car is also equipped with a 1957 later distributor. Did you have any problems? remember we're talking 6 volt positive ground and later distributor. My problem is no spark from coil at all. don't know if I install the unit right no real instructions with it. It seemed like it only goes in one way and you screw it down and go on with it. But after that I'm lost. by what I can tell you replace the hot wire from switch with a black wire then goes to the unit its got to transfer circuit through the unit to a black and white wire that is connected to the (-) black and white line to (-) or battery side of coil. The (+) side of coil is then grounded to battery or frame and it's suppose to work.
I tried one briefly but ended up returning it. My OD solenoid draws so much current, that with the brights on at night the engine would miss at high RPMs (especially before the OD kicked in and the pull-in coil switched to the hold-in). Unless Pertronix has corrected this minimum current issue, I would not recommend one for 6V cars with OD unless the generator has been replaced with a 6V alternator.
P.S. Be advised that the Pertronix module is probably not a bolt-in/plug & play installation. The distributor usually must be turned/re-timed since the mag. trigger & points firing shaft positions are likely never the same, even though the motor may start & run initially. Mine backfired and bucked before I turned the distributor (like the plug wires were crossed).
