I put a thin coat of sealer on the mating surface and a smear around all the seams. The rubber seal on the solenoid could be a problem so I sealed it too. On my starter, a Powermaster, I didn't see a drain hole anywhere. I wonder if I should drill one?

Same problem here. Water draining from hood hole to top of engine and from there to starter. Draining hole is to wrong direction. I put sealant between starter and adapter plate, I hope that helps a little. I also changed a more powerful powermaster starter.

Ok, here's one for you car guys. I use a Powermaster High Torque started on my 56 Ford Victoria. Works great but has a water problem. I had it serviced last spring because of water. I just returned from a 3 week trip and the car set idle. Wouldn't start so I pulled the started. Again I found it completely soaked. It is not antifreeze or any fluid from the engine. Its bolted flat up to a Bendstens AOD adapter. Inside the bell housing felt dry.
