Does anybody have the Argent silver paint code for the splash pan or front valance pan between the bumper and radiator support on a 56 mainline. (similar to Wally Kerstein's) Is walley a member on this site?

I have a ditzler book but it list no codes for silver until 57 and it is not Argent.

Any new similar code would work if you know of one that is close.

If a spray can will do, the TBird parts suppliers have it. Try CASCO.

Thanks Brian,

Thats the kind of info I was looking for, all the old vehicles that I have done any painting on, I have had to buy 2 or 3 pints of what they thought was close and do test areas or panels. Even when they come and shoot a vehicle for me the color still comes out way off and I have had many people tell me they have had no luck with those $50,000.00 guns as far as matching paint goes.

Its getting rediculous and expensive because they don't give me each pint to try, I have to buy it. Also I have Ditzler books with the paint codes back to the 30's with every code from lawnmowers to helicopters to bicycles, refrigerators, snowblowers you name it but nobody can cross reference anything and the PPG people deleted everything from their system prior to 70, 79 or some year in that era.

But just because I give them one of these codes, does not mean I will get a match the first time, I am sure it is still going to be trial and error before they get it right. What happened to the old laquers, enamels and acrylics???

Billy: A friend gave me 2 spray cans of Argent Silver wheel paint. I have not used them yet but they are; VHT (Scottsdale AZ) ASP-188, says "matches Ford Argent Silver." And Eastwood Argent Silver wheel paint, part # 1291Z.. Worth a try?..

Another thing to consider is over time, paint fades. A new paint mixed according to a code may not match original yet faded paint.

Yet another thing, are you sure you're matching the correct color. Stated another way, is it possible a previous owner painted it with a similar color so now the correct color appears incorrect?

Ive Got it!  I took a bunch of digging, but here is the code for Argent Silver (if you dont want to use the rattle can stuff...)

Argent Silver - PPG DBU 4262 (plus) Satin Gloss Clear Coat

Just did it and it looks spectacular!

Hope this helps
