shipped a toploader in an old ammunition crate. Put it in the crate and strapped it down and put a zip cord through the lock . Easy to carry with the handles on the end and tranny was protected.

Good idea, where'd ya get the ammo crate? I was looking at those plastic containers the other day. If I go get it I'll just put it in something like that to keep the gooey off of everything else.

About all you can do is ask him to measure the OA length, count the front splines and measure the input and oputput shaft diameters.

I have parts of two, the truck unit has a very short Tailshaft and a HUGE output shaft. The other one is a standard passanger car and would interchange with the std three speed. Except for the length.

The one in question here came out of a Ford station wagon he said.

That depends on what the T-85 comes out of. There are different versions with different spline sizes and tailshaft lengths. I'm sure that a pass car version will fit, but the truck types will require modificatons.

Did we ever decide if the T-85 is a direct bolt in or not? Did we find out what one weighed?

Thanks y'all. I'm thinking right now that I may just come and get it when I go to MO for Christmas. May cost more but I haven't been to Omaha since I was a kid. I was born across the river at Council Bluffs IA so I may just come up and look around there. Would be a good little side trip. Does anyone know if the T-85 is a direct bolt in ie: cross member mounts, linkage etc?

I've had good luck with FedEx. If you can put the tranny on a pallett and strap it down they will take it. I've sent some boat engine parts to CA that way and the price was reasonable. Check them out. Chuck in NH

Gents you could check Greyhound for shipping the trany.  I don't know what they think about weight but they are pretty reasonable on big volume stuff like fenders and doors and such.  You need to drop it off and pick it up at a terminal.

I will weigh the trans. I will also check into freight costs. I will advise. Might be late next week. I am headed for SEMA in Las Vegas.
