I'm about to re & re my oil pump. I've noted that there have been posts here & write ups in YBM about pump drive rod problems etc. Attached to my Ford authorized rebuilt (old stk) Gerotor pump, is the following info tag, which might help prevent problems. It states; The correct installation of the Rubber Grommet (#6668) is to position it on the pickup pipe & to insert the pipe, jam nut & grommet into the pump body as a unit. Installing the rubber grommet first and forcing the pipe in after, frequently results in rubber being peeled off the grommet & becoming logged between the rotor & impeller, thereby seizing the pump & breaking off the drive rod.. Further, the bolt used in the threaded hole in the pump body, must not exceed 1-1/4" in length or the bolt will protrude into the pump body, jambing the rotor, seizing the pump, & resulting in twisting off of the pump drive shaft (rod)...I hope this info is useful... However, I have two questions also. One, should any kind of lubricant be used on the grommet? Two, the thin gasket provided, does it need any sealant on it? Thanks..
