Dan:

Neither is "compatable" with your G head.  Both are low compression heads.  The 471 will have the "normal" 11/32 exhaust valve stems, the B9TE will have 7/16 diameter sodium cooled exhaust valve stems.  Replacement guides can be used to put the 11/32 stem valves in the B9TE head to make it like the 471.

I think mismatched heads are caused by people buying a used head from a salvage yard to replace one head on their engine.  Years ago, neither the salvage yard guy nor his customer knew the difference, they just knew they fit.  I have seen rebuilt engines, even by "authorized" Ford rebuilders, with mismatched heads also.

Cannot answer your question Daniel but similar situation.  Just pulled heads from a 292 and had a C and a G.  Used my Gs from another engine and installed and running. 

Wonder how many there are out there with mis matched heads?  Kinda like our Sat nite races 40 years ago.  "You in the 'vette and you in the corvair, both white chevys . . . run 'em".

The other day I got a B9AE block out of a 60? Ford truck. Brought it to the garage, scraped off the grease and crud, etc. Here is what I found - one side had the 5750...471 head, and the other side had the B9TE...6090 head with the large "S" cast onto the head right underneath the rocker arm assembly. My assumption is that these heads are not of the same compression - right? I have a G head that is very usable. Would that work with the B9TE head?

I am building a 312 from a 292 block, 312 crank and rods, mild cam, etc.

Any suggestions here? And how did this truck run with mismatched heads?
