Thank you very much.  I think I'm going to pick up a refurb dist.  They are less than $100 I've been told.

Hello Gordie,Reading the previous post I noticed you apparently have the "B" manifold(57-up) like mine is now.If thats correct the reason the advance was removed from yours is because the original advance will only work with a pre57 carb. The system used was called "loadomatic and was vacuum only as far as I know.Is there centrifugal advance weights under the breaker plate on your dist?I don't think it does. You also mentioned to me that you had to modify the breaker plate to install the Pertronix which would mean you definitely have the pre-57 distributor and in order to get this setup working properly you need to  replace the distributor.I think you will be surprised at how much better it runs and much better gas mileage. You can re-use the Pertronix. If you do change distributor you will also need a cap and rotor for any Ford V-8 from 57-74.

Thank you Mark for clearing up my mystery.  I ordered a distrib tonight.  One is coming in from Winnipeg.  It is only $69.00 CDN and it includes cap and rotor.  No sense in messing around with the old one.  I'll let you know how it goes in when I get it later this week.

Gordie; a word of caution. If you are getting the distributor from NAPA Canada, apparently they show a Loadomatic (vacuum only) model in early 57. Why ?. I had quite a go with them about it after they brought one in from Calgary Alberta & it was the early model. You can tell the vacuum model easily as the breaker plate will have advance springs on the top of it. Also their rebuilts are not always the best. Mine turned out to have a worn cam. That results in not being able to get proper dwell...

I suggested to Gordie that he specify distributor for 64 F100 with 292.Should be no confusion about getting wrong one.

Gordie.  When you get your distributor, look at the points to insure you’ve got the later model distributor in hand.  Straight style of breaker points will be a Load-O-Matic distributor (’56 and earlier) while curved points will be a ’57 and up distributor.

Thanks Ted and Mark

I got the refurb distributor today.  Ordered it Monday after work and got it Thursday.  The mounting plate for the points is curved like Ted said.  It has the vacuum advance and I think I can see the weights under the plate.  It is a number B9FA 12127.  Mark gave me some good advice re installing it that I'll use tonight or this weekend.

I messed up.  That link is to a generic picture.  My vacuum advance arm is straight not curved. Sorry.

Hello Gordie,You have  the correct distributor. When you hook up vacuum line if there is fitting on carb which is activated when the throttle plate opens(ported vacuum)that is the one  to use.Set timing with line off .If you only have full vacuum available such as off the intake manifold set timing with line off and fitting plugged. When the vacuum line is hooked back up timing will be advanced a little at idle by the vacuum.Thats not a problem. Some of the nwer carbs like mine have that ported vacuum fitting on them.Let us know how it works for you.
