i've just dismantled a spare pickup tube which was somewhat battered where it exited the pan with a view to bend up a new tube. on removing the three arm disc to expose the screen i was surprised to see an eyelet crimped into the screen with a 3/8 hole directly below the pickup tube. can you guys say why?   why have a screen and then put a hole in it?

word of warning  this pickup tube looked good on the outside, no rust just dimpled on the bend but under the screen it was full of rust and clinker!!
