Charlie , i have no idea where the rust came from. I got a call form the rad. shop and was told they couldn't seal the tank because they would have to cut it in half due to the fact that it was an older tank. Wha??? I thought how odd. But anyway I was told they cleaned it out and it looked like new. When I took tank there it was red on the bottom of the tank a few bugs ,some wood(?), and some what appears to be paint sloching around. Now it looks new. I have had this car for 12 or so years and I never had the tank off till now. In either case it looks fine now . We will install and start to put it back together and see what happens.

55Birdman (4/23/2010) Tank is back home and will be installed tomorrow. Didnt need resealing just a goood wash job so they say. The saga continues....I don't know that I buy that it doesn't need resealing. Do you know where the rust came from?

I am not a purist by any stretch of the imagination. I bought a tank without a filler neck and no way to get one. Second choice was to clean up the original one. Thats what I did . Now I have one with a filler neck. Which is what I needed. You are not a pain. I am!

Unless your a purest just put in the new one and hang on to the old one as is! My posting was actually a bit off since I know very little about T-Birds but it did work for my Vicky Chuck in NH

Well, I have already bought the tank so I have a problem. tried to cancel it but order has been processed. I have a filler neck issue. Tank was bought from Inline Tubes .com. When I drained tank fuel was flowing from fuel outlet to pump freely. So, maybe a fuel line. Will take tank to radiator shop to be cleaned. May keep new one and sell later if old one can be salvaged.

Hey Guy; Checked my tank and it is does not have a vent, only a vented cag. Also checked Casco and they show a different for 55 and different number for 56 and still a different numberfor 57, however believe the 57 has a vent hose. My car is a 55. Hope I'm not becoming a pain?? Eddie

I found a new tank for my 56 Vicky for about $180. Solved a LOT of issues. Well worth it if your tank is bad or plugged up. Often a blast of air from the fuel line back will blow off the sock at the pickup. I've never tried to remove one from the tank but it can't be easy. Before you do all that though make sure the tank is the problem. You should be able to hear bubbles when you blow through the fuel line if the line is clear. You can also blow into the tank by jamming the filler hole with a rag. This should make fuel flow pretty freely out of the fuel line at the front of the car. Did you ever find if you have a vent line and blow it out? They really are a great home for spiders! On my vicky it exits behind the license plate near the filler. Just a small line with a grommet. Should come from the drivers side of the tank up fairly high. Hope this helps. Chuck in NH

Hey Earl; Email me your phone #. this site is freezing up?????? Tank is wrong I have a new one from Larry's T-Bird and has a filler neck. Did you try Casco, think they are closer to you. If you can get a long stick in the tank thru the guage hole, you maybe able to get it off. USE WOOD not metal. Don't want any sparks. Hope this goes thru, but give me your number anyway and I will call you. God Bless Eddie
