Just finished pulling the motor and FOM out of the Hot Rod yesterday .Developed a knock about 4 months ago and got worse every day .The first FOM I installed had  the air cooled converter with the  early flexplate with spring steel ears .They all broke off and made a very sad noise .Replaced motor ( which turned out to be OK ) ,replaced  broken flexplate with series 2 flexplate and  converter ( 3 bolts each side ,180 degrees apart ) .Right now  I'm having a FMX rebuilt ..Going high tech with a Lokar shifter .Converter is being built with modified snout to suit Y-Block crank .The original FOM was not rebuilt .After sitting for 4 or 5 years all I did was add more trans fluid .I have driven it hard . No problems at all with the FOM ,but those early flexplates are ( S#%T) not real strong .

Now that you have a spare motor you will have to find another ride to put it in. Maybe you will need to asphalt some of that lawn to park it on though, that way you won't start any more fires on your lawn.
