Just finished pulling the motor and FOM out of the Hot Rod yesterday .Developed a knock about 4 months ago and got worse every day .The first FOM I installed had the air cooled converter with the early flexplate with spring steel ears .They all broke off and made a very sad noise .Replaced motor ( which turned out to be OK ) ,replaced broken flexplate with series 2 flexplate and converter ( 3 bolts each side ,180 degrees apart ) .Right now I'm having a FMX rebuilt ..Going high tech with a Lokar shifter .Converter is being built with modified snout to suit Y-Block crank .The original FOM was not rebuilt .After sitting for 4 or 5 years all I did was add more trans fluid .I have driven it hard . No problems at all with the FOM ,but those early flexplates are ( S#%T) not real strong . Lon
