You should be able to split the case without removing the pulley. Make sure it reseats in the balls completely before tightening the bolts. Mating surfaces should be flush. Sometime they hang up about 1/4" out and take some fooling with to get seated. Chuck in NH

Chuck, when I get these new O rings in town, can I just unbolt the two halves and lift up the top section until I have both sections, remove the old o rings, install new ones, and then rejoin, or should I remove the pulley bolt and then tear down from top to bottom?

Chuck:

My mind is gone.  The bracket is cast iron, not bronze.  The bronze one was an experimental one Studebaker cast to try VR58 blowers on the Avanti.  Anyway, this bracket has F21006 and 37504-1 casting numbers and the idler arm F20940 and 37603.  The 37 series numbers look like old Paxton numbers to me.  There is no pulley on the idler, nor tension spring.

I downloaded the pages a long time ago when the site was still up. I'll dig them out tomorrow and EMAIL you. Check the second link I just put up for belt numbers and lengths. Chuck in NH

Chuck,

Yes, my e-mail is danaxjessup@yahoo.com working fine.

I did click the link...lots of info, but hardly any photos (blank "x's" in the boxes) are there. Is there any link to the rebuild manual on the site? I did not see anything on the left hand column that matched.

sorry, no extra brackets right now..

The O ring replacement is a fairly simple job. I think I may have the VS57 manual around here in .PDF files. I'll look for it. Does your EMAIL work?

John, Cast Bronze? Wow! I think the last scrub bracket I saw was marked CH101 on the back. If it will fit a scrub 350 it will work for me. Got a price? Chuck in NH

Moonshadow:

I have a blower bracket that I thought for a long time was a Y bracket, but laid it against a block recently and it's not Y.  Maybe a sbc, I don't have one to compare it.  If it is, it would pick up the water pump bolts on each side, mount the blower on the top of the engine.  It's cast bronze.  Also has the idler arm and pulley as I remember.

Chuck,

How difficult a project am I looking at here, and will I need any special tools to replace the o-ring (granted that is the issue)? I went ahead and purchased the kit from "ironwigam" that included the O rings...just in case I needed the smaller seals and/or balls.

Should I block off that small hole behind the solenoid? - I do have the solenoid as operational with the lo-hi blower cutout.
