Just went out and looked, same as a fordo. Oops. I'm gonna see what Ron is selling his 390 for. I'm a young broke student so any deal I can get is better than retail.

Ron - I PM'd you about the 390 carb.

Mark - at this point I will go with whichever option is easier on the wallet. I have an auto trans (mercomatic) and believe the 465 isn't compatible with the kickdown. I could be wrong though. Looks like autozone is getting another order for that remanned dizzy! Didn't think I could actually get one for less than $150 so I'm stoked!

Kevinwalshe! The distributor you want is remanned by Cardone.Part # is 30-2808.Best price I found was Autozone-$37.99 +core $15.00 total $52.99.I dont know what Oreiilys price is.You need a cap and rotor if not supplied with distributor.57-74 Ford 8 cylinder. If I was going to buy a carb now(I have the 390 Holley) I would go for the 465Cfm 1848 model.Little cheaper I think and it uses hotair choke like original or you can buy an electric conversion if you prefer.Either 390 or 465 is a good choice.Hope this info is helpful. If you buy that distributor and you really want to wake up the motor add a Mr Gasket advance spring kit.gets to full advance between 2000-2800 RPM.Have one in mine.really makes a difference in pickup.Part # 925D Mr.Gasket.About $4.00 well worth doing before you install the distributor.

I did the 57 distributor.  I bought a rebuilt one from Oreilly's Auto Parts I think it was Item #30-2808 and is listed for a 61 F-100 with 292.    Their smaller stores have to order it but their bigger warehouse store had it in stock.  They had one listed as a new distributor for 62-64 with 292 but this is the wrong part.

The car drove great with the new distributor and the 390 carb out of the box.  So everyone here is right about the distributor change.

I just received the Pertronix 3 in the mail.  I am putting it on this weekend and will update with my opinion.

I think that was my plan for the oil bath conversion; glad it worked out!

One suggestion on the intake - I have one of the early mummert intakes, and I just painted it engine color.  Nobody notices that it isnt stock.  Pretty funny, actually.  From looking at the website, his new one has the "Mummert" logo on it, so you would have that to contend with.  Ive been trying to figure out if there is a good way to remove that and blend it in with the rest of the casting so I could do the updated manifold and paint it similar to my current setup.

And Kevinwalshe, I may have a holley 390 that im going to put up on ebay or sell here soon, although honestly after running them back to back, I found the Holley 465 that is designed for these engines to make a little more power than the 390 without losing throttle response.  Just something to consider

Have you gotten the distributor yet? I went on Napa's website, and couldn't find the right one. I also have a 55 Merc, and I am sick of my t-pot leaking everywhere and giving me grief even after rebuilding it. I think she has seen better days as the years of sitting with old fuel in her have messed up the integrity of the metal. I am going to change mine over to the 390 cfm as well. Thanks for all the other info, it will help me a lot! BigGrin
