oldcarmark (10/15/2010) AJ-What happened to the bike(s)?You still have the wagon and guitar.I've been down sizing a bit. Between my daily driver, my wife's car, my daughter's car and all of my motorized toys, I was doing more oil changes than Pep Boys! I sold the 62 F-250 and the 55 Club Sedan. I still have the 55 Ranch Wagon and the Indian Chief. I really miss the Club Sedan though, I think I'll end up getting another 2 door post at some point! As for my guitars, I'll keep 'em until my last day...somebody will get a good deal at my estate sale after I'm gone!!

Ted, the ECG-A, B,C,D numbers were cast between the exhaust ports, congrats on fantastic EMC results, a big effort and result. Thanks Bill.

There were a number of 182HP Specials that came out of the Dallas assembly plant in 1955 with the U engine code instead of being identified in the VIN with the M code. These were the 4 barrel carb equipped 272’s with the better heads. Don’t know if this was a common occurrence with all the assembly plants in 1955 or just the Dallas plant but definitely something to watch out for. You might check the heads for the ECL-B or ECG-A head casting codes as these were used on the 182HP Specials. The ECL-B identifiers are located under the valve covers but memory fails me where to look exactly for the ECG-A codes. If you’ve got a matching pair of either of these heads, then someone went to the trouble of putting the whole power pack package on your engine or it came that way from the factory. I recall visiting my uncle who lived in Texas. He had a new 55 Ford Fairlane with a 272 2BBl carb, Fordomatic. Car ran good, but back then I did not have any thing to compare it with. I think we had a 46 Dodge as a family car, a luxurious upgrade from a thoroughly worn out (170,000+Mi) 37 Ford. Dad plumb wore out the 37 using it on the job as a tool pusher in the west Texas oil fields in WWII.

I've owned 2 55s with 2 bbl carbs (Holley 94) and dual exhaust. I can't say either of them would "lite up the rear tires" but both were plenty powerful, reliable and very easy to tune. Even better, now you have have the option of original rebuilt 94s, or brand new 94 style carbs from Demon and Edlebrock.

Does anyone on this forum drive a 55 Ford that has a 2 barrell carb?, my vin number shows that my Fairlane originally came with a 2 bc and had to have an ECG manifold before someone converted to a teapot 4bc with a 55 ECB intake manifold. The 2bc was a vin # U and if it came from the factory with a 4bc the vin# started with a M. I was just wondering about performance as you can buy 2bcarbs rebuilt from Carpenters.
Claim to fame is the car was used as an extra in the movie Diner with Micky Rourke, Steve Gootenburg, Paul Riser and Kevin Bacon.
