hahaa i was pretty dman sure the 239 intake gaskets had to be different due to the port size. just ordered a set off of napa. thanks guys

Whoa, I took in too much territory when I said "all" the gaskets will fit. Intake gasket, as mentioned above, is for the smaller ports. The 292 gaskets are iffy for sealing the ports.

The intake gaskets for the 239 are a different part# from the 272-292 gasket sets.According to the NAPA online site the part # for 1954 239 engine is FPGMS9243B priced at about $9.00.I find the NAPA online site very handy for checking part#'s and availability.

so should i just ask for a gasket for a more common year 292 or whatever whn i go there. all i need right now is an intake gasket for the 239

All the gaskets for larger Ys fit. The head gaskets are different, and later steel shim gaskets won't seal a water passage and water leaks into the cylinder. The composition gaskets in the NAPA kit will seal.

I get my gaskets from NAPA. Ebay nearly always has gasket sets but I have no idea what the quality is.

im looking for a good place to buy some quality gaskets for my 239. what all is interchangable with the bigger y blocks ? any help is appreciated
