A while back, I posted that I was having problems with my 1956 Crown chewing up the speedometer gear (19 teeth). I since have installed a new speedometer cable and a recently rebuilt speedometer and still had a failure of the gear. I suspect that the transmission on my car may not be original to the car and that I may need a different speedometer gear. How can I identify the transmission in my car and determine what number of teeth my speedometer gear needs to have?
