I have a line on a 2000 Mustang 5 speed. Will this year work? I believe it has the electronic speedo, is there a way to convert it to mechanical? And which clutch and fly-wheel will work, the one in the truck or the one from the Mustang?I have searched on here and came up with lots of info. But not much about these questions I posted above, that or I am just a forum idiot (which probably is true)..lol It will be going into my 1964 F-100 which still has its original 292 3 speed..

Are you sure it's a T5? I don't believe a 2000 model will have a T5.

Well, if it is a T5, the newer ones, after '93 have a longer input shaft. You will have to use an adapter plate to mount it and even then you may have to space it out further. The following is accurate with regard to the '93 and earlier units but may not apply to the later units. To convert to mechanical, remove pulse generator, install the 3 speed cable. It's that easy, though you may need a new drive gear to get the speedometer accurate. You will need your truck's flywheel. The clutch required can't really be determined until you have all other parts in hand. You do not need any of the Mustang clutch components. If it's not a T5, you will be a pioneer.

hi for what its worth use a t5 trans from a mustang 1983 to 1992 because you can use most of your clutch assem just change your disk and modify your bell housing because a truck has rear mounts and is different than a cars and you can used all your mechanical linkage and speedo move your rear mount and lenthen the drive shaft with anew yoke assem from a mustang this is what info I have found because I,m going to do the same to my 54 mer. shakey Pete (john mummets site) don,t use above 1993 trans

shakey pete (1/11/2011) hi for what its worth use a t5 trans from a mustang 1983 to 1992 because you can use most of your clutch assem just change your disk...Maybe. Get the transmission first, and then we can determine what needs to be done for the clutch. If the input bearing retainer looks like this: You will need an entirely different clutch and throwout bearing. However, transmissions with that retainer are typically the stronger units so don't let the need for a different clutch scare you away.

I am gonna look for a 93 and earlier, just to be on the safe side. I don't want to be a pioneer, I will just follow the trail that was already cleared....ha

The later model Stangs use a T3650 with a cast with case bellhousing.

Not familiar with a T3650 but my ’97 Mustang has a Borg Warner T-45 five speed which also has an integral bellhousing. I'll add that those intregal bellhousings simply adds to the complexity of allowing those particular trannies to be used easily on anything other than what they were originally designed for.
