I have a 58 ranchero with a y-block, and a 3-speed OD trans. I got a mr gasket shifter with the car, I had to cobble it up pretty good to make it work. Anyone have another option for a floorshift linkage?

thanks, Mark

Frank, i started this same post bout 3 weeks ago and got limited info. I found out that you can use a shifter from a late 70's jeep 3 spd, but no one offers the conversion kit anymore. We need to put our heads together and figure this one out. Ive been researching this for over a year and still nothing!

Hurst built their Mystery Shifter about 50 years ago. It is the best shifter I have ever used on a Borg Warner OD. I have bought several NOS ones on eBay, as well as good used ones. I can take some pictures of the mounting and linkage and email them. The mounting can be fabricated. I have found several on eBay by searching Ford Overdrive Hurst.

I just took photos of my early Hurst shifter and mounting bracket to my T85 with OD. How can I post them on here so you all can see. Still not convinced this will clear the seat in my 54 Ranch wagon.

Ok, now my interest is piqued too. I haved a T85 with the R11 gears and I am wondering what I am going to use for a shifter. I have an old NOS hurst shifter, I will have to get out that box and see what it says. If I remember correctly, it does say 55-56 Fords, but nothing about overdrive.

Richard - I would say that with that shifter arm, there is NO way that you are going to clear. Seems to me that I remember that a few years back Hoosier Hurricane posted some photos of a good setup that he had, or one that he had seen. There was a nice "Z" in the arm to clear the bench when you went all the way back like that last photo you have there.

Have you taken any measurements on the wagon's body?

Richard

could you cut it off, drill and tap the shifter and bolt this to it.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VINTAGE-HURST-INDY-STRAIGHT-SHIFTER-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2c5a417260QQitemZ190492799584QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Richard, I can't offer any help with the shifter, but I can tell you that is one fine looking Y block. Good luck with it.
