Grizzly (2/6/2011) I'd been looking at a replacement for mine. EventuallyI will update the fuel system with an electric pump and better fuel filter. The vacuume wipers don't work they're best anyway this would push them beyond useful. There are some "50's charm" items that don't charm me.
Do the newport wipers have intermittent? I can't makesense of their web site and Do the Castle wipers switch fit in the original position using the original knob? Twice the price but would prefer local and there's always freight to consider.Yes, the New Port wipers do have an intermittent switch. Plus, they have an adapter that lets you use the original knob. I have the knob adapter, but not the intermittent, on my 54 and 56 TBird..

Just check the time difference ( I think 7 am Au = 4pm Independence MO ).The site is fine if you live in USA .I can't remember the price of the wipers ,but I know it was about half the price of Castle Electrics .Freight was $50.00 . Seem very helpful to deal with . Lon

This was Moz's post before I took over Richard in defence of the vacuum wipers they were the best intermittent wipers that I have ever used with some fiddling you could set them so that once the windscreen got wet enough they would make a few wipes then stall ready for next time the glass got wet enough. Lon, you are right I will need to get some more info. I read the Newport site both as the intermittent switch fits and it doesn't. 55,56,57 all use a 55 dash in Australia. I can see that a bulky or long switch would not fit because of the speedo. Lon did you fit intermittent? The castle ones are $370 as opposed to $205. Castle mention intermittent at the top of the page at $220 extra but I don't know if this is for the cable ones. A intermittent switch is listed below at $260. Must be good stuff I use intermittent at least as much as the other two speeds although mostly it's just to clear the glass at the start of a trip. Thanks for the responses. A wiper upgrade is on my list but a way off.

Grizzly , I just bought the standard wipers. On, off & self parking . I did buy the extra long switch .Don't use the wipers much, even when it does rain ?? Rainex works like a charm on curved windshields ( windscreens). The "A" model roadster never had wipers ,always had plenty of "Rainex " .Only got caught twice in 5 years .Rained so hard we had to pull over .I knew I should not have taken the roof off ?? Moz: An old trick around here was to put a little brake fluid in a small container, put the vacuum hose to the wiper motor into the brake fluid, and with the switch to the ON position, manually sweep the blades back and forth a few times to suck some fluid into the wiper motor. Sweep the blades to the extremes of their travel. Put a towel or something under the motor, as fluid may come out the motor vent. Leave the blades in about the halfway position until you drive the car again. The thought is to let the brake fluid soften the seal on the paddle in the wiper motor, as well as soften any sticky grease in the housing. Doesn't cost much to try it.

I contacted both Castle and Newport with some basic question including info on intermittent price and issues fitting problems. Newport Hi Warren, Thanks for your interest in our products. We have a quality kit for the 1955-56 Ford. The delay switch will fit in the stock location with the shaft extension. Delay switch is a 2'cube. Your car needs to be wired for 12 volts. This kit includes the motor, mounting bracket, wiring harness, delay switch and shaft extension. Price is $292.90. We usually mail to Australia, cost is $55-60.00 Mailing. We have these in stock and it can mail out right away if you like. Thanks again, Linda @ New Port Engineering Castle Hi Warren Yes these are available with intermittent switching which all goes back in the original switch position. Price on complete kit with intermittent is $570.00 plus postage. Please email if you need more info or want to place an order. Thanks Con Obviously Newport is half the price of Castle I prefer to deal locally but really.
