I just bought a running y-block for $200. I do not have the flywheel or anything behind it. I am looking for the most cost effective way to run a t5.. My options seem to be bendtsen's kit and mummerts kit/s. Given that bendtsen's come with the starter and seemingly runs GM parts, I am hoping that a s10 t5 would be an easy swap with off the shelf/in stock cheap parts at my local parts house. Mummerts kit's require me to buy a bellhousing, pressure plate, yblock starter, clutch, flywheel and everything for a y-block. In the end it seems to be a total wash and even in price. (Roughly $1000 either way minus transmission) Which route do you guys think I should proceed in? I have a bellhousing for the y-block but I am unsure If I can use it with mummerts methods. Can you guys help me with that? Attached is am image of the bellhousing.

I recently bought a kit from bendstens and installed an E4OD in my 62 F100 4X4. The kit was very complete and the instructions were very clear. It came with adapter plate, starter, flywheel, bolts and clear instructions. I had to build motor mounts off of the adapter plate but it wasn't that bad to do. Working with John is very good also so if you have any questions just give John a call. Good luck with your build. Robi

Thats an automatic bellhousing, so it won't work with the T5 conversion. James

You need a 3 speed transmission bell to have John modify for the T-5.. Depending where you live, shouldn't be too hard to find a bell nor a fly wheel, though shipping can be a problem due to weight. Shipping for the bell is about $45. You're going to need a clutch and PP no matter which way you go with a manual.
Oh yeah, you're going to need a Mustang T-5 not an S-10 or other GM. Folks (particularly in trucks) use an S-10 tail shaft on the Mustang T-5 as it moves the shifter about 8" forward.

It also depends on whether you are putting this into a truck or car as they use different bellhousings. James

The bolt pattern on that bell does not look like it fits Y block to me, have you put it up to the back of your engine?

Thanks guys.
It is going in a 1930 pontiac 3W coupe. Length isn't a big issue. Would it be possible to run a S10 tranny on the bendtsen's kit? It seems like it just turns the back of my Y into a SBC.

On Bendtsens website is says it can be used with manual or automatic. But at $875 for the adapter, there are more cost effective ways. An adapter plate and a car bell housing or a modified truck bell housing is a lot less than Bendtsens for the same goal. No matter which adapter you use, you'll need clutch components, so don't figure that into the comparison. With an adapter, flywheel, and starter, you should come out at least $100 less than Bendtsens. The Automotive Electric Services starter is excellent. You can find them in the links of the home page. But it won't look remotely period correct if that's what you're going for.
