I replaced a 6cyl. with a 292 the v8 is shorter and uses a second front crossmember. a stock ford part,my 54 truck frame was already driled for the crossmember motor mounts are available aftermarket.

Ya, I'm not sure it it was a 6 or not. It must have been because the front mount is set up for a round rubber mount rather than the square in my 292.

You did not say, but I am assuming that this was a 6 cyl vehicle. If so, the front frame bracket will have to be fabed or cut from a V8 frame and welded on.

I think you need a V-8 bellhousing if you're replacing a 6 cylinder.

You should have a bellhousing that has two ears on the bottom, either side, and of course the mount under the crank pulley that your currently see. This should be it. Once the block bolts to the bellhousing, then you have your side mounts connected. The 56 F100 I had was that way, and the 61 F series dump truck was set up that way as well.

Hello, everyone.

I am a new member and would appercate any advise i can get. I have 1961 F-100 and am putting in a 292 with a four speed behind it. the problem is, is that i can't find where the engine is supposed to mount up there is one big moun inder the crank pully and that is it. There are none on the sides of the block and nowhere for them to go on the frame. the only other mounts are the trans. mounts. does the engine use these rather than having tradtional ones of the sides of the block? like i said any help i can get would be more that apperciated.
