I would like to avoid an oil tsunami on a break-in start up and having to r and r the rocker assemblies plus readjust the valves. The rocker stands are the new style that came with Mummert's heads which are numbered in sequence for installation. I also have one his 272 camshafts so I expect the groove on the cam is enlarged. I will give John a call in the morning.

When you get it running you will be able to see if you have too much oil up top.Easy to fix.Tap the oil feed hole in the rocker stand and screw in a small plug with correct size hole driled in it.I had to do mine afyter having the new cam oil groove deepened to .034.Started it up and within 30 seconds the oil was overflowing the heads. If you need to do this there is a post in which I asked for info on plug type and hole size for the plug.Easy fix.Starter up and see what you have first!

Well, I may have an FE hangover. Went through this with my Galaxie at one point. Thanks.

Mark I think you maybe a little paranoid.. Unlike FEs I have never seen a Y Block flood the top end. If you feel you have excessive oil at the rockers you can always restrict the oil with a piece of rod or bolt drilled with a .060 hole and pressed into the oil feed hole in the rocker stand

Today I am finishing up getting the 312 with new heads, cam shaft, etc. ready to go back in the Tbird. I filled the crankcase with Joe Gibbs Break-in oil. New Motorcraft FL1A filter. I spun the oil pump with a drill and have oil coming from all the rockers on both heads. Now I can turn the pump with a 1/4" drive extension and ratchet by hand and get oil from all the rockers. The rocker shafts have been modified (oiling holes on the shaft are slightly slotted) and the return holes have been plugged per Mummert's instructions. Seems like that is a lot of oil pressure just turning the oil pump by hand. Is this too much oil to the upper end or am I over thinking it?
