Yes.  Tap the plug out of the truck block at the front for the passenger  dipstick tube, put some sealer on it and tap it into the hole where the  truck dipstick tube is now.  Taps out from the bottom, in from the top.

I did the same thing, only with an automatic car (54).

If you use the steady rest, you will need a 55/56 one as the later balancer will not clear the 54 steady rest.

Hi, newbie doing a search on this topic. I have a 54 with Fordomatic and just picked up a 57 292 to swap in. I noticed the 54 has only a front pulley while the 292 had a balancer. Will the 54 pulley and flex plate affect the balance on the 292?

Is the timing cover and water pump different from '54 239 to '57 292?

I got the '57 292 with carb and distributor, I have read that the distributor is different with mechanical advance.

Thanks!

I know you can't save them all, but I'm tryin anyway!

Balance will not be affected.  All Y’s are internally balanced meaning the flywheels and dampers are all ‘zero’ balanced and can be interchanged freely between the various engines.

Is the timing cover and water pump different from '54 239 to '57 292?
Yes.  Timing cover for the ’54 engines is different to accommodate the different fuel pump and water pump that’s on the 239 and 256 engines.
