Hello US. My name is Bjorn and I´m a new Y-block fan from Swden. I have a Merc Monterey -55 with a 292cid, but i need to do something about the engine. Here in Sweden a rebuilt of a y-block is really expensive about 4000$. so i found this one http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/buy_engine.html?p_vid=27717&sid=1AlF2z2jK7Kr3k2-41111055635.dc I wonder if any body knows if it is a god engine, or is there a better option for me???? Have a nice day /Many thanks from Sweden

A few problems I noticed:
As far as I know, the crank/block have only one casting # each. It's like they dug up every known Y-block # and listed them together.
I also see no head #s noted. Many remanufactured Y-blocks ended up with mismatched heads.
They don't mention whether hard intake valve seats or bronze valve guides were installed. Unless the new valves were oversized, I'd worry about knurling.
Some of those part brands listed have been known to supply inferior chinese items.
Didn't see anything re: balancing (?). A lot of cheap rebuilt motors have a thrown-together mix of rods/crank where the balance is even worse than the OEM factory version.

Hi Bjorn, I was in kind of the same situation you are. I have a 1955 Mercury Montclair and I pulled the original 292 and built a 1957 312 for my car. I've seen this engine web site before and thought about purchasing one of their engines before finding my 312. The price they advertise is a good one compared to what it cost me to build my engine. I replaced all the same parts in my engine that they list replaced in their engine. My overhaul kit cost me $1200 and machine work another $800 and assembled it myself. But I can't speak for the quality for their workmanship. It would be nice if you could talk to some that have purchased their engines. Also, their warranty is a bit misleading, 7 seven years/ 70,000 miles. If you read the fine print it basically has a 24 month warranty which is still about an industry standard. One other thing, how much would the shipping cost be? Good luck!

I purchased a long block from the above mentioned ad (S&S Motors) and had it shipped to the Netherlands. They were very good at giving me any information I needed and have had no problems with it. (it preformed very well on the dyno when we set it up and broke the engine in)
