Jim, all the gears and bearings are the same strength its just the additional gear reduction from the input shaft to the cluster gear that puts more load on the gears and reduces the rating.
You will need to make up a special pilot bearing. The 4cyl input shaft has a .590" diameter pilot while the V6 & V8 are .668".
Best way is to get a 4 cyl pilot bearing and remove the needle bearing portion. Bore a Y-Block pilot so it will press in. As I recall there is about .002" interference to hold it in place. Best to measure the diecast piece it mounts in for the 2.3L so you know the correct fit.
