If the box is original it is a COM. You should be able to identify by the illustrations that have been posted on the Ford Barn site which shows the differences between the boxes.

The cooler is primarily that. It is more important to get heat out of an automatic than putting heat in. With the transfer of heat from the engine block and the internal friction of an auto they get warm enough.

Yes I am pretty sure you have been. So it would not be a good idea to use the stock cooler that I have now? Also somebody mentioned either here or another forum that it might be a "warmer" Im not sure but I want to clarify and gaurantee that this is infact a COM before I do anthing with it.

Forgot to mention that the bell housing for the car auto will be probably be different than the one that came out of your F100 as they may be using engine mounts off the bellhousing in the effy.

I think I have been answering your posts on the Ford Barn site. There is a major problem nowadays with using trans coolers running through the radiator. If you are not using an original rad with copper/brass tanks it is probably aluminum and these are prone to crack or split the cooler tubes inside the rad. Do not use these rads to connect the auto to. Use a separate transmission cooler. If the tubes crack your transmission is toast. The trannys heat up through the heat of the block and the friction within the box. Do your tranny a favour and keep the cooler separate.

Use the gearbox with the external cooling in preference to the one without.

Use the cooler you have! Its a water cooled transcooler, it will do the same thing as a one mounted in the radiator. Why buy more parts to achieve the same result. If it didn't work, how did all these ford-o-matic trucks and cars drive around back in the day?
