Ted wrote an article for Y Block Magazine a couple issues ago about repairing a loose damper ring using bolts and nuts.  Good article.

There used to be an outfit called the Damper Doctor, don't know if they are still around. Also, I think our Moderator Ted has an aftermarket supplier now for correct fitting replacement Dampers. Ted!?

It says ECG-6316-A on it. If anyone has one they would sell that would be awesome. It would be ok if the seal surface is grooved I'll just put a sleeve on it.

Often when the rings comes off they will break apart. This sends shrapnel out in all directions. Can do a lot of damage. Do you know which damper you have? Chuck

I don't know if the ring would break apart. It wouldn't come off the front but it will move back toward the timing cover. When it does there's no telling what will happen but there will be quite a bit of energy when it comes off at a couple thousand rpm. It may only make some noise and cause cosmetic damage or it could break stuff. Any time you have something moving around in a way that it should not be moving around, there is potential for damage. The entire front of your engine is at risk. I wouldn't take that risk.



Maybe you can drill it for some dowls or bolts to keep it in place for the time but then it won't be able to do it's job as a damper.

Replace it. It will work it's way off eventually and could cause quite a bit of damage. This is one of those things where trying to save a few bucks now can result in a far greater expense later.

Maybe someone has a used one to sell you.
