I'm running a 66-70 Mustang steering box in my roadster. Since the 4 bar front end swap it seems to have a bit too much slop. The adjustment screw on the access plate is messed up. Looks like someone hit it with a cutting torch. I can't seem to get it to do anything. Are there any specific tricks to this box? I was thinking about taking a 1/4 turn on the big nut that the shaft passes through. Are these boxes hard to rebuild? Thanks, ChuckChuck, the top cap that the shaft passes through is adjustable only to set the preload on the shaft bearings and unless you can move it by hand once the lock nut is loosended then dont. if that feels ok then normal adj is by the small screw on top of box, again, get a feel for pressure it exerts on internals. this done while s/box main shaft is centered. Best tip is find someone that knows about this. hope this might help a little.
