PF Arcand (1/17/2013) ....... Neither listing any year shows ECZ-D heads.. So ??I vaguely recall some older reference material that pointed to the ECZ-D head being the factory head for the 1957 Thunderbird with the 292. I’ll make it a point to go back through some of my older literature and validate this.

Pete 55: ECZ-A heads appear on the Mummert/Reese list (not on the Y-Blk book list) as on 1956-272 pick ups. And as on 1956-312 Mercurys & Ford Police Interceptors, likely with std trans or O.D., as compression was at 8 to 1. No list for 292s.
Neither listing any year shows ECZ-D heads.. So ??

Tom: By the Y-Blk book your "C" heads are correct & are one of two correct casting #s for std & O.D. transmission 272s, for 1956. The other casting # was ECG-T.
Carl: The head info you posted for the two station wagons with 292 std & auto transmissions by the Y-Blk book also appears correct.

For whatever it's worth I have a 56 Customline car 272 with C heads. I know it to be original. It was a standard transmission 2V engine with no other accessories. It even has standard cooling with the 3 blade fan.

i checked a couple 56 292 engines i have and found the following.the 56 292 that came out of a 56 Ford station wagon with standard transmission is a EDB block with ECZ-B heads. The car was stored since 1966 so more than likely it is the original engine. The other 292 is a ECZ-A block with ECZ-c heads and it came out of a 56 Ford station wagon with fordomatic trans. This engine was pulled out a couple years ago so dont know for sure it is original one or not

Another question regarding 292/312 cylinder heads. Which motors received the ECZ A and ECZ D heads. And would that imply that the ECZ A heads were made before the ECZ C/D heads and before the 1957 ECZ G Thanks for the information. Pete

I had heard that there were different head gasket thickness used. That would create different compression ratios. Oldmics
