I attached my 292 Y Block to an AOD with the adaptor available from Bendten's. Everything fit like a glove and the swap from the stock manual transmission to the automatic was quick and easy. I do not see any way to cover up the opening below the adaptor plate. If I understand correctly, the original AOD had a mid plate but that is not used in this application. The original Y Block had a dust cover under the fly wheel attached to the bell housing. This modification leaves an open gap at the bottom of the adopter plate. Has anyone ever seen how this is protected from the elements?
