I want to install a 57? 312/4bbl from a T-bird into a 58 f-100 w/ 292/2 bbl. My question is will the 292 timing cover assm fit onto the 312 ? The 292 cover has the extra casting on it for the front style motor mount, were the 312 does not... I would assume if possible I would still use to single sheeve none dampened crank pulley is this correct ? I would also like to swap oil pans between the two, will they interchange ?

I have looked up the gasket sets, and they are the same part #'s as far as I can tell..

Help please...

IF your 312 came from a T-Bird you should be able to use the front cover that is on the 312 because T-Birds also had a front mount. If the cover is different (out of a car) the one off of the truck 292 will fit.

IF your 312 came from a T-Bird you will also have to use the truck pulleys and accessory mounts. Oil pans swap as well.

Everything on the 292 should swap over to the 312.

Thank you both for your answers to my questions... Having done a little more research I am not as confident of what I was told of the original home of the 312. The block is coded C2AE, the heads are coded ECZG and it has a single 4bbl intake. The crank pulley is a single sheave(Belt) solid casted as 1 piece. The timing cover has no provisions for a front motor mount it also has the dip stick entry for the front sump oil pan.

The 292 in the truck has the extra casting on it for the front motor mount but has a rear sump oil pan as to clear the straight axle suspension, thus the need to swap parts. The crank pulley on the 292 is a harmonic 2 piece style, they both have a depth of 3" and are single sheaved. Why would I need to use the one from the 292, the two pieced dampened part ?

Second question, as both oil pans are still in place; does the right side dip stick entry point that is casted into the block, come with a removable plug from inside the pan, or will I need to drill the casting to relocate for the rear sump oil pan and side entry arrangement ?

Thank you again for your response and in advance;  Cool

Use either pulley, whichever suits your needs. There is a plug in the dipstick hole, drive it out from inside the block.

Obviously, if the block is coded C2 it's not from a 57 anything. The block is a later truck version, probably a 292. I'd pull the pan or a head and check. The G heads could very well be original to the 'Bird.
