Finally started the process to change the transmission. First step, pull the engine. So while I have the engine out, I plan to do a few things. Replace freeze/ expansion plugs, I already had to replace one. Round out the oil pick-up at the pump, I replaced the oil pump and the pick-up had been dinged in previously. While I have the pan off, check the bearings, not to mention figure out if I have 292 or 312.Current engine condition, runs great, doesn't smoke, oil consumption hasn't been an issue, biggest thing is low oil pressure at idle when hot, as in after driving 100 miles.
I have thought about putting a mild cam in, but have to admit, it's more about the sound than the power.

Thanks,
Don

What do you consider low oil pressure?.. some are obsessed with having very high pressure..

With 10-40 the light comes on in drive at idle, maybe 5 pounds. With straight 40, 10-12 pounds.

Don,

Not engine related but with the engine out you can clean and paint all those hard to access places and fix things that would be a lot harder to get to later. I`m sure you`ll have thing to keep you busy.

Remove clean and paint exhaust manifolds. Eastwood had a special paint for that. All kinds of stuff. Pete

Pete, cleaning the engine bay is certainly on the list, plus finish painting the areas I couldn't get with the engine in place.

Stu, The pump end of the oil pickup looks like someone took a chisel and dented the end to shrink it making the install easier, and I wondering ir there might be an ari leak causing some of my idle pressure problems. As far as getting it back to round, working from the inside out, maybe putting on a little brass as filler to get tue outside smooth.

For what it's worth, I'm putting in a Uni-steer rack and pinion at the same time which will help with the cleaning.

Don
