There must some old framer tricks out there for getting rings working again, motor runs but I think rings are stuck in pistons*** on a few cly.?I remeber guys puting Comet down carb to reset old rings, and puring water in slowly when running to brake carben out,but I'm talking about maybe soocking or some that may get rings moving again with out taking it apart[ya farmer style],I got two other Y-s to rebuild later any way,the right way with new parts ,but just time &$. I know best is do a rebuild on the other Y,but hay I'd like to try something?

I've had some good results with Marvel Mystery Oil. Seems like a few days soak will do a lot sometimes. Is your old Y for the hot rod stuck? Chuck
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Marvel Mystery Oil may help. It's the only thing I'd consider using. Squirt into each cylinder, let it sit for a day, then fire it up and hope for the best. If that doesn't help, a rebuild is the only real remedy. All those other "techniques" you mention are pure B.S., IMO. Good luck.

¼ cup of ATF in each cylinder and then apply 100+ psi air pressure to each cylinder individually with the valves closed. Then after letting this sit overnight, spin the engine over with the spark plugs out to clear the cylinders, replace the spark plugs, and crank it up and allow the engine to get to operating temperature.

I have a truck with a 292 that sat for 15 years out in an orchard. It runs nice but cylinder #5 has only 80 psi, the others are all about 120 or so. I did put MMO in all cylinders before I turned it over for the first time. Is there a test I can do to verify this is a stuck ring or not? Also I've read that a mix of 50/50 ATF and Acetone is the ultimate penetrant solution, better that PB blaster even. Cheers

The test is called "Leakdown Test", there is a PSI gage and fitting goes into sparkplug hole, with the test cly on fireing spot, you pump psi up to test amount and time leakdown, this gives a %//// also by putting your ear to carb, EX, and oil fill tube to hear where the leaking is happening=tell were the leaking is, valves/intake or EX, from carb or EX, rings if you hear leaking in oil fill tube. I no longer own test set, so just do with my ear and how loud it sounds=my % guess..

Along with the ATF or Marvel mystery oil, I mix ATF and Kerosene for my penetrant! you can also add a quart of ATF or MMO to each tank of gas, It helps in many ways.
