I just finished refurbishing my ECG high ratio rocker arms with bronze bushings. I reassembled using new Mummert shafts. While the rocker assemblies were off the engine, I used the "grease gun" trick to try to clear the oil passages in the block and head. This seemed like it worked as I felt resistance at the grease gun lever at first, and then much less resistance in the following pumps. However, after installing the rocker assemblies on the engine and driving the car around a while I have what looks like barely adequate oil flow to the left bank and just a little flow to the right bank (only the center rockers are getting any oil at all).

So, I have decided to install an external oiler. I have a ton of work installing the bushings in the 16 rockers and sure don't want to starve them of oil. Problem is - I've been watching ebay for one several weeks and haven't seen anything for a Y-Block. I was wondering if anyone has fabricated their own external oiler and if they might have any plans or instructions for doing so. I've searched this forum and can't find anything.

Thanks.

Slick56 posted a picture of an external oiling system the was pretty, er, Slick. I'd like to know how it was run. http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/Topic92190.aspx. It's hidden under the valley cover.

I'd post a picture of it but the picture posting icon is MIA... In fact ALL the reply icons are missing.

Over on Ford Truck Enthusiast Forum http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum56/ there is a guy that said he had some external oil kits. I think his name is WALFORD's... I'll see if I can find him.

I have taken some more pics, but i also cannot upload them.

Essentially, a t-piece was put in the oil pressure switch port and a 1/4" od copper line ran from the tee up the rear of the block into a hole drilled into the rear of the valley. The line continues to a copper tee and a line runs from each side into a 1/4" hole drilled into the rocker feed oil galleries. The tube appears to be a push fit into the oil gallery, but may have been epoxied. Where the tubing enters the valley is just siliconed.
The oil supply needs to be restricted imo, there is way too much oil to the top end. There is a suggestion on here (somewhere) about tapping the feed gallery under the rocker pedestal (5/16unc i think) and screwing in a plug with a 1/16" hole drilled in it.

This is a neat way to do it, compared to the rocker bolt feeds.

BN: Does your engine have high mileage on it ? And do you know how much oil pressure you are getting? A badly worn pump or very worn cam bearings, apparently can contribute to the problem.
