Ok guys, so I found on ebay a car bell housing with the clutch fork, boot and throw out bearing. It was $90 shipped so I figure that was a good deal. Will my z bar from the 6 cylinder still work? What about the Z bar pivot from the truck? And lastly, I will post a WTB in the classifieds, but does anyone here have a car style oil pan, and the correct radiator I will need, maybe for cheap? The car is a 59 Edsel, so I believe a Galaxy or Fairlane a couple years before and after will work. Again if anyone wants to trade or needs to buy, I have a trans that seems to be in good running order (manual), front motor mount, bell housing, clutch, oil pan from a 63 pick-up. I will also have a bunch of parts from a 223 (car) if anyone needs those for a 6 cyl project (I know, probably not the right forum to move that stuff.), the block is trashed, but I can pull the head and see if it's ok should anyone need that, manifolds and carb are good. I am keeping the valve cover and air cleaner for wall art as they were pin striped by one of my best friends. I am in the Minne/St.Paul area, but will also be driving through Iowa week after next (27th to be specific) and will be going through Waterloo and down through Cedar Rapids to see some buddies en-route to Des Moines on the 28th.

Thank you all for the info. The car really is one of a kind, and I miss driving it something awful. I literally drove it everyday last summer till the 6 s*#t the bed. I will have some of the truck parts as well, including a complete trans, if anyone in my area wants to do some horse trading. Since I am new site, are we allowed to post "want to buy/trade" ads in the classifieds?

You have a number of guys fairly close. Royce Brechler lives in Wi. Jerry Christianson and Randy Conner are in Mn. There's more in IL. You're not alone. Do the 292, the parts will not be that expensive if you take your time and don't grab the first part off Ebay you see. You will like the car with the V8.

Where are you located, members on here are scattered around the country and alot have left over parts. I have several front sump pans and a car bell housing that I will let go. Just ask around and someone will have parts or know where they are.

John good to see that you finally made it back.

Boy. Thanks guys. There are a couple things I didn't realize. Didn't even think about the oil pan or radiator. I did notice the fuel pump, but figured that would be easy enough. Guess I need to hunt a lot more parts before I try and tackle this. Bums me out cause I miss driving it so much. I just had my first kid, so money is also a factor right now. Maybe I should just find another 6 and sell the 8 I bought. Seems impossible for some reason to find what I need in working order in my neck of the woods. Thanks for all the input.

Measure the depth of the bellhousing, from the engine mounting face to the transmission mounting face, compare the 6 cylinder one to the truck one.  Some trucks had deeper bellhousings than cars.  Your modified later trans will bolt to a Y V8 car bellhousing for sure, not necessarily to your truck bell.

I just did a swap on a 1960 F100 from a 223 to a 292. I don't know if the rear motor mount flanges on the clutch housing will be in your way on the car or not, but you will probably need that front sump oil pan. Also, you have to switch sides with fuel line and generator wires, and the bottom hose on radiator is on wrong side. If your radiator is so good that you want to use it regardless, I once had a radiator shop switch sides with the upper neck, so they should be able to do the lower.. It did not appear as sturdy to me as before, but it worked. I'm not sure if I would do it again, but never say never. Then of course, there is the exhaust to refit. It is more trouble than it seems to change from 6 to 8 but very doable. Cheers

I have never done a swap in a car, but I would think that you would need a front sump car oil pan and I think that a car bell housing and fork would make life easier. The linkage could come from any 58/59 car or possibly modify the 6 pieces.
