Carl:
This was on the old site, but I cannot find it either. In a nutshell, the FMX can be bolted to the FOM bellhousing by putting the bolts in the bottom two holes and transferring the upper two bolt holes from the bellhousing to the FMX case. If your FOM has the 29 spline input shaft instead of the 17 spline, you can put the FOM front pump on the FMX and use the original converter. If your FOM is 17 spline, you either have to find a 29 spline converter or put the 17 spline input shaft in the FMX. This involves a complete teardown of both trans. Or you can leave the FMX front pump on and have a special converter built that is Y block on the front and FMX on the back. This will require a '59 or later flywheel with the starter ring gear on it, as the special converter will be a sealed unit instead of the bolt-together one in your '56.
At the rear, you may have to fabricate a rear mount, and you may have to shorten or lengthen the driveshaft. Or, put the FOM output shaft and tail housing on the FMX and use the stock mount and driveshaft. Watch the tail housing gasket very closely in the lower corners, it may not cover the corner and will leak. Any FMX will work.
