The carb kit instruction sheet was vague. I've got the picture now. Thanks

Paul. Sounds like you are looking for the required clearance without manually pushing down the diaphragm cover lever which in turn allows the diaphragm itself to be physically bottomed out. Unless the cover lever is pushed down manually while the throttle is in the full open position, the clearance being checked will not be obvious due to the diaphragm spring holding tension on the accelerator linkage. With the throttle in the full open position, just push down the diaphragm arm down manually and measure the clearance under the spring loaded adjuster. If you’ve bent the lever up that houses the the spring loaded adjuster then you may need to bend it back down to get the adjustment back to the required 0.015”-0.020” clearance.

In resting position take out the clearance. As Ted stated clearance in a closed position can cause a hesitation.

Ted: Thanks. The spring is installed correctly on the gas side. Then the diaphragm, convex side down. Maybe I am reading the instructions wrong? There is no free play but, I can put a .015 feeler (or more) between the two arms, if I push it in. Is that o.k.? Possibly I need to extend the spring stop, and recheck, as I have a lot of slack when the throttle is closed now? Yes/no?

The accelerator pump adjustment for your particular carburetor is performed with the throttle in the full throttle or full open position. If clearance is put into the arm in the idle position, then a hestation or stumble issue comes to the forefront. As far as not having enough adjustment to get the required clearance at full throttle, then I recommend pulling the diaphragm assembly back apart and verifying that the spring is located on the correct side of the diaphragm. The spring should be exposed to the fuel when installed correctly. If the diaphragm is installed backwards and/or the spring is located to the outside of the diaphragm (away from the fuel), then you’ll get a false reading regarding the clearance.

From my understanding with Holley carbs, the clearance is measured with the throttles fully closed or at least in the idle position against the throttle stop.

Pulled my 2 bbl 2300 carb due to a dirt problem. Instructions on kit say that with the "throttle wide open" there should be .015 clearance between the operating arm & the accelerator pump arm.( illustrated) Even with the contact spring fully compressed, there is no clearance. The operating arm seemed to be bent down some, so I carefully bent it up a bit. Still no clearance. Am I missing something in the instructions?! Any info appreciated...
