I'm finally gettin her back together and i'm praying to possibly turn her over on Friday, my birthday. BUT I have a few more problems I need kinked out
1-Tranny Lines
2-Wiring
3-Dipstick Tube
4-Random hole in block
1- On the bottom of the radiator There are 3 spouts. One on the right(passenger side) is for the drain cock, the one in the middle i've figured goes to the passenger side of the Fordomatic (Right by the entrance of the dipstick tube. But the one on the left, I HAVE NO CLUE!!! It looks like it's supposed to go somewhere on the Drivers side, but i'm not sure. I still have the line, but when i hook it up, there's nowhere for the back end to connect to. ANyone know about this????
2- Wiring- Of course, with like the tranny, I had friends helping me out. They wrote down the wiring in a little book, AND LOST IT!!!
What i'm trying to figure is the wiring for the little pin thing (For the lighting i'm 95% confident). It's located on the front of the driver side fender and is about 2 inches long with various pins that are supposed to go in it.
3- I have still yet to find the TRUE LENGTH of the dipstick. I lost mine and don't want to under/over fill the tranny when i break the motor in. Anyone have the CORRECT measurements for it. I have a spare 350TH dipstick i'll just cut to fit.
4- There's a hole in the block on the passengers side, roughly 6" from the starter, right in the middle of the side of the block. I HAVE NO CLUE what this is for, what it went to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. HOPING TO HAVE IT RUNNIN FRIDAY, WILL IF ALL THESE QNAS ARE ANSWERED

i may be able to help with question four... if the hole you are talking about is the small hole just down and left of where the bottom motor mount bolt goes, then the 63 truck 292 i just finished pulling apart had the dipstick tube there.. don't know if they did something different with the cars.. the other 292 block i have has the same hole but there is a small freeze-plug blocking it off.. hope that helps..

Correct on the dipstick hole. The trucks were on the side. Provisions are made for either on the engine. The tranny lines leave the transmission and are run togather down the passenger side of the block. At the radiator they seperate, one into each hole. Inside the radiator is a cooling tank to cool the tranny fluid. I don't think it matters which side they connect to at the front but I could be wrong. Search this site and the web for wiring diagrams. There are some color coded ones that are fairly simple to follow. Chuck in NH
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

I don't think hat hole is for the oil, BC it's full of oil and none is drippin out, it's on the Pass side of the block
I was assuming that there's another place to connect that line to the tranny, just haven't found it yet
I'll search for the wiring diagram, but yes it look like what you're explaining with the 8 in 6 out etc etc

William: Two possibilities that I can think of for the second trans cooler line. One is on the back side of the main case, passenger side, next to the aluminum tail housing. The line requires a 180 degree bend to attach here. Other is on the same area of the case, but on top of a rounded shape cast into the case, right rear corner.

Apache (11/23/2009) Found the other tranny line... So now all I have to worry about is wiring and gettin a cock for that block ;-)As far as the hole in the block, that is for a dipstick tube = both the trucks and the early TBirds had the dipstick on the side, not in the front. Stick something down the hole. If it goes in about an 1/2 inch or less, it has a plug in it. If it goes in further, then you need to get a plug for it. It used a cup type plug like the ones in the rocker shaft ends, but smaller I think. The electrical junction block on the front of the left fender apron is for the lights. Some are doubles and some are singles. Two singles are for the front signal lights (one to each side). The doubles are for the headlights ( one for high beam, one for low beam) and the parking lights lights. The parking lights, high beam and low beam have one going in and two going out. The 55 and 56 TBird had two junction blocks- one on the left fender apron and one on the right fender apron. The wires that serviced the right side came from the left side junction to the right side junction. The 57 TBird may have been a little different as the wires were run different than the 55/56. I don't know if the cars were the same, but my 54 had the two (the right side was behind the grille).

Apache (11/23/2009) I don't think hat hole is for the oil, BC it's full of oil and none is drippin out, it's on the Pass side of the block Unless you over filled your oil pan it wouldn't drip out if it's not running.. i went out in the shop and double checked both of my bare blocks.. that hole goes right down into the oil-pan..

Apache (11/23/2009) Now how about that dipstick length? By the parts catalogue for the Ford cars and Thunderbirds, overall length for the 55/58 FordOMatic dipstick is 27.625”. That jives with the one in my ’57 and also the two spares I have sitting. The in-tube length is 22½”. I don’t have the pickup parts catalogue but I’ll not be surprised if the trucks had a longer dipstick and dipstick tube.
