The in-tube length does not include the handle.  What’s the length of the transmission oil tube you’re dealing with as it could be from another vehicle.  I can compare that length to the ’57 tranny tubes I have here including the one that’s in an original unmolested ’57 Fairlane.

Now how about that dipstick length?
By the parts catalogue for the Ford cars and Thunderbirds, overall length for the 55/58 FordOMatic dipstick is 27.625”.  That jives with the one in my ’57 and also the two spares I have sitting.  The in-tube length is 22½”.  I don’t have the pickup parts catalogue but I’ll not be surprised if the trucks had a longer dipstick and dipstick tube.

I don't think hat hole is for the oil, BC it's full of oil and none is drippin out, it's on the Pass side of the block

Unless you over filled your oil pan it wouldn't drip out if it's not running.. i went out in the shop and double checked both of my bare blocks.. that hole goes right down into the oil-pan..

Found the other tranny line... So now all I have to worry about is wiring and gettin a cock for that block ;-)

As far as the hole in the block, that is for a dipstick tube = both the trucks and the early TBirds had the dipstick on the side, not in the front. Stick something down the hole. If it goes in about an 1/2 inch or less, it has a plug in it. If it goes in further, then you need to get a plug for it. It used a cup type plug like the ones in the rocker shaft ends, but smaller I think.

The electrical junction block on the front of the left fender apron is for the lights. Some are doubles and some are singles. Two singles are for the front signal lights (one to each side). The doubles are for the headlights ( one for high beam, one for low beam) and the parking lights lights. The parking lights, high beam and low beam have one going in and two going out.

The 55 and 56 TBird had two junction blocks- one on the left fender apron and one on the right fender apron. The wires that serviced the right side came from the left side junction to the right side junction. The 57 TBird may have been a little different as the wires were run different than the 55/56. I don't know if the cars were the same, but my 54 had the two (the right side was behind the grille).

William:

Two possibilities that I can think of for the second trans cooler line.  One is on the back side of the main case, passenger side, next to the aluminum tail housing.  The line requires a 180 degree bend to attach here.  Other is on the same area of the case, but on top of a rounded shape cast into the case, right rear corner.
