I wonder how many models Hilborn made?  It looks like AussieBill's Hilborn setup has the barrel valve on the valley Cover and the one for sale on E bay has it on a bracket from the left side module.

Doug, you are correct, my hilborn has the genuine valley cover and the hose block and barrel valve screw to it, it was pretty complete and went looking for the paperwork when i got it, it was in 2002 and paid, wait for it! $3975.00 USD plus shipping to here, and thats a lot of $AU!. It is #5 and i believe there were 150-200 sets made,? who knows, i then sold off my other less complete set to help ease the pain. but these things only keep getting dearer. The guy Aluminum man allways has rare stuff including other y block intakes but high to start. I got this set off an interesting individual, BIG BOB HUTA from Lomita in CA. Bob had the rarest of speed equipment and a longshoremans manner but was ok with me, sadly passing round xmas, i believe his son will carry on, but bob had the knowledge. best regards bill.

Sure as hell wasn't me. If I remember, the similar incomplete unit that sold way back (10 years ago?) went well North of $4000. At that time the discussion was about the foolishness of the purchase and the estimated number of Hilborn units produced to be about 175 to 200. So, in some context, the purchase price paid this week falls in line. If I had a much larger wallet I would have considered it. The purchase price does point to a very impressive interest in Y blocks. Vic Jr. take notice, there is still a large inventory of Y block motors languishing in retirement. The 55-57 Tbird market will assure a constant demand. Many of the early Birds are being handed over to a younger generation as the original restorers are fade away. Many of the newer owners will be looking at what to do with them.

Here's some pics of the complete Hilborn set my buddy, Ralph Alix owned for years for your viewing pleasure. I believe Tom Kitchens bought it from him at the shoot out last year, or the one before?

As a gentleman… Tongue I didn't ask what the sale price was.

I lusted over it for years and years as he was willing to sell it to me.

IMHO nothing would have looked cooler on my street TBird, and nothing would harder to take care of and keep going for the street especially. I needed it like another hole in the head. But I still wanted it! A great piece of vintage speed hardware. Tom's probably putting it to good use I bet. Oh ya, check out the spooky fuel shut off. hehe

Alan:

What's so spooky about the fuel shutoff?  It looks just like the one on my toilet supply line.  It's probably 50 years old, just like the Hilborn.

John, I hope your pulling my leg? Please tell me that wouldn't pass tech today. hard to tell about sarcasm on here.

But yeah, the toilet shut off is exactly it. As a matter of fact it looks like something I would have tried to get by with.

I keep learning, the hard way.
