Gerald, I'm not smart enough to figure how to post the picture here but I can email it to you. I'll try to get to it tonight. If this works it shows the shifter in second gear.

The stock 5.0L Mustang pressure plate will not fit the Y-Block flywheel. It is a metric bolt patternand uses metric bolts and dowel pins to locate. The diaphragm pressure plates that fit the Y-Block flywheel are aftermarket pieces. Input shaft is 1-1/16" 10 spline. From the installations I've seen, clearing the 57 bench seat is not an issue. A lot depends on where you have the seat and the shape of the shift lever you use. Using an s-10 or scumero T-5 opens a whole new can of worms, like pilot bearing, shaft length and where to find an adapter.

petew (2/26/2010) Just finished putting a T-5 in my 56 Merc and I must say it fit without any drama. No floor mods were necessary and the shifter hole landed just ahead of the front seat. I purchased a shifter arm from Lokar that has a double bend in it, cut about 4 inches out of the bottom and re-welded it. The finished product provided a perfect bend to clear the front seat and looks factory.
Any chance you can post a pic of the Lokar shifter handle? Or e-mail it to me? gritsngumbo@comcast.net

I must have the seat all the way back and had no problem with the stock shifter location
You gotta have the right tools and know how to use 'em.TC - Austin, Texas

Some guys had issues clearing the 57 bench seats with the mustang T-5, I guess you can use the camero or s-10 t-5s on this swap. What did you guys use? Mark

thanks, Mark

Rono, do you have the part #,s for the Centerline clutch/pressure plate-- and are you using the stock Z-bar clutch linkage? I'm about to install a Mustang T-5 in my '57 Courier and thinking about going with a hydraulic clutch instead of the stock Z-bar setup but $'s are tight so I might forgo that expense unless someone else has a convincing argument for the hydraulic setup? Dave; For what it is worth, I went with a Centerforce Clutch and pressure plate set-up that results in a very easy clutch pedal. I am using an 11" disk. and if/when you order you just tell them the tranny you are using so they know the correct spline and shaft diameter. Rono.

Yes, I believe that if you use the original pressure plate with a 5.0 Mustang disc you will be in business. Your only criteria is spline count and diameter and I believe the Mustang disc fits the bill.

Could it perhaps be the original clutch disc from the Mustang T5 thatis required? Dave

I purchased the adapter and clutch from Mr. Mummert. I don't like the high pedal effort that the stock style 3 finger pressure plate gives so I went with a diaphram Style. Mummert was able to get me a nice clutch set up for a reasonable price.
