It's people like Dennis who are willing to help out that make it all possible. Us newbs would be lost without their insight and advice. Take some pics of the process you go with Dennis to repair your floorboards and throw 'em up for the rest of us to learn.

Well she sits a bit better now.. Got 4 of the correct sized wheels on it.. Took the hood latch off yesterday and three of the four bolts broke off.. yay.. The latch is bent up and pretty much toast which is why the hood looks like it's not closed.. Atta boy! That'll be a bad@ss cruiser for sure!

Yeah thanks for the link.. I do have a small welder (which I have yet to wire into the shop:w00t and plenty of hammers.. I wanted help on the patch panels mainly to learn some old schoolers' body-work secrets.. The guy i was talking about helping with the body-work is a friend I met through my job at my plywood mill.. It was a particularly slow day and I had an old issue of Rod and Custom sitting on my work stand that I had been thumbing through.. Dennis had just been transfered to my department in the mill and had been called up on my work station to fix a problem (he's a mill-wright) and he noticed the mag.. Then he and I start talking about old hot-rods and what our favorites are and such.. He ends the coversation with " Tell ya what, I'll bring you in some pictures of some of the cars I built when ran my rod-shop." The next day he comes up on my work station with a giant stack of old pictures.. I thumb through these things and see some of the nicest hot rods and customs I'd ever seen, from a 6" Chopped Merc to dueces and model A's and T's.. The guy has done it all.. The last dozen or so pictures were of a Model A coupe with a SBF he built for himself.. He's a west coast guy but this was a total East coast style build with a 4" channel and no chop.. Behind one of the pictures of the engine on a stand is a dyno slip.. 498 HP at 6500 RPM.. This thing was serious.. He swore he was gonna keep it for himself but when he finally got it finished someone walked into his shop and handed him a check for $41,000 for it.. That's 41 grand when I was just a baby (mid 80's) We got to talking more then he invited me out to his house.. I went out there and checked out his current Model A Roadster he's putting together and I eyeballed his 62 Comet for months (till someone else bought it) and his 69 firebird that is all original and been in his family since brand-new.. I helped him roof his new shop for nothing more than just the pleasure of spending more time hearing his stories.. Anyway Dennis is an absolute Gem when it comes to old hot rod building and I am enjoying his friendship and the fact that he is willing to share his knowledge with me.. Of coarse he gives me all kinds of hell for sticking with a Y-block

If you have a welder and a hammer you can do it yourself. I've done a lot of the metal work on my effie and I've never done anything before that. I found a thread on the HAMB that can break it down for you so you can understand it's not that difficult. If you're brave enough it's not hard at all. (Especially floorboards, or patch panels for floor boards that won't ever get seen) The link is to the thread on the HAMB is HEREGood luck duder. I LOVE your truck!

I wish I had some buddies around here that can do sheet metal! Let us know when you get it running. Try and grab some video of it if you can! Good luck!

Not yet.. Might not even worry about those.. I remembered i had some flat sheet metal and a good friend of mine has been doing body-work on hot rods and customs since the late 60's so i may enlist his help when i get to that point.. The drivers side cab corner is a chunk of rust but that patch panel is only around $50.. Other than that all i need is a good set of front fenders.. Oddly enough the bed area is as straight as an arrow.. Thanks for the start-up tip.. I had totally forgot about doing that.. I'm hoping to start it up (or die trying) next week sometime..

Mine didn't run for over 17 years and with a little work and some new parts, she fired right up. Before you fire it up, remember to prime the motor by removing the distributor and spinning the oil pump, that way the valves and cam don't run dry. Did you end up ordering the patch panels for the floor?
