I have been reading with great interest the recent post on tuning Edelbrock 1405 carbs for a dual quad set-up. I'm building a 1957 312 and have a 1957 factory dual quad manifold. I know the original carbs for that manifold (ECJ 9510-AA List 1437) are extremely rare and expensive. What i'm wondering is would other teapot carbs work instead, such as something like a ECZ 9510 List 1161? How are the dual-quad teapots different from other 1956 or 1957 teapot carbs.

Also i went to the Edelbrock site and couldn't find any 1405 carbs.  The recommended dual-quad carb was a 1403 (500 cfm). Are 1405 and 1403 similar carbs? Which would be preferred for a 312 application?

Last question........what sort of cam specs should i run to adequately use the dual-quads potential. The heads i'm running are the 1957 312 heads (ECZ-G, 9.7/1 compression)

Steve
