You're welcome Moz. As an afterthought, brake fluid will dry up in time. Maybe if it fixes the motor, you could use the same proceedure to get some light oil into the motor to keep the seal soft.

Re wipers in a similar vane; the previous owner of my 57 car had problems with the wipers and it badly damaged the glass on the drivers side corner. While inquiring about replacing the windshield, a veteran auto glass installer told me that wear in the linkage (cables in this case) & wipers was likely the problem, & unless fixed, would likely damage the new glass. I've noticed that there appears to be wear in the wiper arm pivots. I'm not sure about the cable system. My experience with electrics has not been good either. They were failed when I bought the car & failed again, the 2nd time the motor burned out. I believe they were from a company called Vintique. I'm back to vacuum wipers now with a resealed motor. With the pump assist they work o.k.. However, most people with collector cars in this area of British Columbia, usually avoid driving them in very wet conditions.

Yes, will be going to nats, hopefully i,m registering my just finished blown A coupe next week and depending on how it goes in the time up to then i,ll be in it. We in this state are undergoing registration and engineering changes, will be official end of month before current gov is thrown out of power but will not change the new system. Cops will be able to view engineering report and pictures of car at time of rego in their car computer and any little changes etc you will be fined, defected etc. It stinks. also limiting engine sizes and no blowers on light cars like a models etc. Will stay in touch prior to coming.

Do the newport wipers have intermittent? I can't makesense of their web site and Do the Castle wipers switch fit in the original position using the original knob? Twice the price but would prefer local and there's always freight to consider. You can't get more intermittent than the good ol' vacuum ones Richard Yeah, ya can Richard. On mine, the left one goes up 1/2 way when I turn them on. When I turn them off it goes back down. Took the vacuum fuel pump off & plumed it directly into the manifold, same results.... lol !!! One day I'll get electrics, until then stay out of the rain when possible, use Rain-X, & twist the knob on & off !!

Hoosier Hurricane (2/9/2011)
Leave the blades in about the halfway position until you drive the car again. The thought is to let the brake fluid soften the seal on the paddle in the wiper motor, as well as soften any sticky grease in the housing. John, First time I've heard that one. I did the castor oil/brake fluid routine years ago, but fix didn't last very long. Installed a rebuilt motor which worked well, but after a few years same trouble (balky, erratic wipers). Rebuilt THAT motor myself. Used silicon distributor grease in the hope it wouldn't dry out. Worked like new for a few years, but having grief again now. Will install another pro-rebuild soon I had put aside (current motor was sort of cobbled together as NOS parts to replace damaged gaskets, etc. now virtually unobtainable), but am really puzzled about what causes the odd symptoms when motors fail? Why do the arms overreach/slap? Why is the action erratic, but in a regular pattern? Isn't one wiper cycle equivalent to one motor cycle? It seems like every 3 wipes or so, the blades slap. Just curious.
